Kit Noel has revealed a brilliant Kitty Pryde cosplay, edited to show her phasing through a wall, highlighting the X-Men’s most underrated power.

An incredibly talented cosplayer, Kit Noel, recently released a truly iconic cosplay of a young Kitty Pryde, highlighting how underrated the X-Men’s phasing ability is. Pryde, who as an adult now goes by Captain Kate Pryde, is one of the most beloved X-Men of all time and Noel’s brilliant cosplay perfectly captures her attitude, looks, and amazing power.

Kitty Pryde first debuted during the legendary “Dark Phoenix Saga” and was the youngest member of the X-Men for many years, often taking on a “younger sister” role for her older teammates, and eventually adopting the codename Shadowcat and headlining the Excalibur series with Nightcrawler. The X-Men are known for having incredibly powerful abilities, but Pryde’s phasing power is often underappreciated because it seems simple, when in reality it is an incredibly complex and versatile ability. Kitty Pryde’s power of intangibility allows her to move herself, objects, and other people through solid matter, but it also allows her to control her own density, meaning she is able to walk through the air or become so dense that she is a match in strength to the Hulk. Additionally, her intangibility has the added benefit of automatically disrupting and destroying any technological matter she phases through, meaning she is an incredibly powerful offensive opponent when dealing with robots, cyborgs, or androids, and can also easily take down Iron Man in his suit.

A talented cosplay artist named Kit Noel, who is also the co-founder of the non-profit Cosplay Care Project, has revealed many stunning cosplays on Instagram over the years, such as Harley Quinn, Gwenpool, and a recent Black Cat costume. Her Kitty Pryde cosplay appears to be a modern version of her original X-Men costume when she was still going by the codename Sprite, and the covers Noel used as inspiration come from 1984’s Kitty Pryde and Wolverine #1 and the recent Marauders #3 variant cover by Jeehyung Lee.

Not only does Noel look just like some of Kitty’s more modern looks, when she still had straight hair and wore it in a ponytail, but the costume looks professionally made by Jumbo Carnation himself. Noel’s clever image editing showing Pryde’s phasing abilities is truly brilliant and offers a very realistic imagining of what this phasing would look like in the real world. Kate Pryde, now the Red Queen of the Hellfire Trading Company and leader of the Marauders, has been a central figure to the X-Men for years, and acted as the leader of the X-Men and headmistress of the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning for a long time pre-Krakoan Age. Pryde’s abilities have been used to save her friends, and the world, countless times, with the most famous perhaps being the time Kitty Pryde fully phased a massive world-ending bullet through the Earth, remaining trapped in it in a constant state of intangibility for nearly 2 years before finally being rescued by Magneto. There are sadly still some mutants, and comic readers, who don’t fully appreciate just how powerful Pryde’s phasing ability is, but it is quite clear that if anyone ever had to fight Kate they would quickly learn just how powerful she is.

Kit Noel’s amazing cosplay of the fan-favorite character Kitty Pryde, current leader of the X-Men’s Marauders, is a perfect representation of Kate’s costume, fun personality, and abilities, finally giving her amazing phasing powers the attention they rightfully deserve.
